1935 Advanced Jumbo One of Gibson’s most famous, most powerful and most coveted acoustic models, this meticulously crafted 1935 Advanced Jumbo is modeled after an original found in renowned vintage expert Gary Burnette’s collection. We’ve painstakingly recreated vintage details from this guitar to create a model that lives up to the proclamations of the early Gibson catalogs first introducing the AJ, with “a bass so deep and full it can be felt as well as heard, and a treble that responds with harmonious singing brilliance,” or as Burnette describes them, “bone crushers.”
Handpicked and tap-tuned, the Adirondack red spruce top is sanded to the dimensions of the original. The 1930s advanced bracing pattern features hand-shaped braces to historical specification. All bracing is secured with hide glue and cloth stays making the resonance of the body remarkable. The back and sides feature hand-picked rosewood for warm tone, while the long-scale, larger sound hole creates a focused, balanced tonal response. The top, back and fingerboard are bound in a simple binding with distinct MOP diamond-and-arrow inlay on the rosewood fingerboard. The same design graces the headstock with a simple MOP Gibson script logo.
Designed and built to embody the spirit of the original, the 1935 Advanced Jumbo continues the legacy of one of the most sought-after vintage guitars in the world. Early 1935 & ’36 guitars, in good condition, are valued today in mid five-figure sums.
